Rouge River Expeditions

Welcome to the Pickering Rouge Canoe Club’s Rouge River Expeditions program! We are excited to offer a paddling program for adults and youths who are eager to explore the waters in various self-propelled watercraft while enjoying the company of like-minded individuals.

Our program is designed to introduce participants to three different expeditionary paddling experiences: Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), pleasure canoeing, and beginner level kayaking. Our experienced coaches will provide instruction on the fundamentals of each watercraft, ensuring that participants gain the necessary skills and proficiency to paddle safely and confidently on their own. Once a level of proficiency has been established, participants will have the opportunity to traverse upriver and explore the Rouge National Urban Park from a unique perspective.

The program will take place on Thursday evenings from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, with two sessions of 6 weeks available. The spring session runs from May 25th to June 29th, and the summer session runs from July 13th to August 17th.

Participants are required to bring their own life jacket, sunhat, and water bottle. Paddles, boats, and other equipment will be provided. The cost of the program is $150.00 plus HST, making it an affordable and enjoyable way to experience the thrill of solo paddling.

Join us at the Expedition program and embark on a paddling journey that combines adventure, skill-building, and camaraderie with fellow paddlers. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to paddle under your own power and explore the beauty of nature from the waters!

Masters

Introducing the Masters Canoe Kayak Program! Our program is tailored for adults aged 18 and above, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced paddler. This program teaches participants how to use sprint canoes and kayaks and allows the opportunity to race competitively.

Our program runs on Tuesday evenings, providing a convenient schedule for busy adults. Masters is tailored to each individual and allows adults with no experience to learn a new sport and build social relationships. Paddling is a low-impact activity that offers an above-average aerobic workout while also helping to build flexibility and core strength. It’s a great way to stay active and healthy while enjoying the beautiful waters.

One of the exciting components of our Masters program is the racing opportunities. Even if you have minimal experience, you can participate in our racing events and challenge yourself to improve your skills. It’s a fantastic way to get motivated and meet fellow paddlers in the community, fostering a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition. For those who are interested in racing, we offer special Masters events at different Canoe Clubs each month. To compete at Western Ontario Division, Provincials, and Nationals, Masters paddlers must be at least 25 years old.

The cost of the program is $300.00 plus HST. Whether you’re an experienced paddler looking for a new challenge or a beginner seeking to learn a new skill, our Masters Canoe Kayak Program is designed for you. Join us for a summer of paddling, racing, and community building. We look forward to welcoming you to our program!

High Performance

Our High Performance program is for experienced paddlers aged 15 and older who have aspirations of elite level training and competition. The program is designed to help athletes reach their full potential and achieve their goals in the sport of sprint canoe kayak.

Athletes who join our High Performance program are typically those who have already gained significant experience and skills in paddling. The program is  rigorous, with athletes training up to 10 times a week year round. Our focus is on extensive paddling and on-water training, combined with cardio, weights, and callisthenics to build strength, endurance, and agility. During the winter season, we shift our training to include weights, ergs, and cardio such as running, and also make use of a nearby gym for indoor training.

Our Spring programs run from April to July, with practices held on weekday mornings and afternoons, as well as Saturday mornings. We make use of various locations, including the Rouge River, Frenchman’s Bay, and off-site locations in the GTA and Niagara region for training.

Registration in our High Performance program requires approval from our Head Coach, and athletes are required to bring their own lifejackets and paddles.

Join our High-Performance program and take your paddling skills to the next level as you work towards your competitive goals and aspirations. Contact our Head Coach at coach@pickeringrouge.ca for registration information and get ready for an intense and rewarding training experience!
