Florida Training Camp 2016
In March 2016, six athletes from PRCC participated in winter training in Homosassa, Florida. There were 66 athletes in total at the OCSRA’s (Ontario Sprint Canoe Racing Affliction) camp, with seven coaches from various clubs. The daily training routine included of weights, running, and two on-water practices with time trials on Fridays and Wednesdays. Athletes partook in on-land team games, with teams made up of athletes from numerous clubs. This developmental training camp not only taught the athletes proper technique in kayak and canoe paddling, but had workouts that built strength and power, setting the team up for success in the coming year. Those who stayed for three weeks rather than two, raced at Sunshine Showdown. The camp had a lot of fun activities that helped forge positive relationships between the athletes from all the clubs. A great way to begin the 2016 paddling season!
