PRCC Head Coach Announcement
On behalf of the Pickering Rouge Canoe Club (PRCC), Board of Directors, we are happy and excited to announce the hiring of our new Head Coach, Rebecca Fanok.
Earlier this year PRCC was successful in our application to Coaches Association of Ontario’s Quest for Gold Coaching Subsidy program, providing the support to hire a full-time Head Coach for a minimum three-year term.
After an extensive international search with applicants from across Canada and as far afield as South Africa, the PRCC hiring committee was happy to find our final applicant close to home and with her paddling roots right here with our own club!
Says Fanok, “I’m extremely excited about joining the PRCC team once again. I started my paddling journey in 1994 at West Rouge Canoe Club, just looking for a summer of fun and it has led to a lifetime of fun. In 1999, my family moved to Hungary and I was lucky to train with some of the best paddlers and coaches in the world. Once my paddling career ended in 2004, I was able to mentor and learn from those coaches and with that I gained a wealth of invaluable knowledge.”
“Rouge is a hidden gem on both the Scarborough side and Pickering side. I look forward to bringing both sites together, so everyone feels at home no matter what site they are on. I can’t wait to get not only the club back out in the community, but all of the hard working athlete’s names as well.”
“Being back at Rouge is also very personal to me. I was there as a little peewee when it was great. Many of you may not know, but Rouge sent a paddler to the 1996 Olympic Games, and I believe with hard work and dedication, we are able to accomplish that again. I look forward to meeting all of you on Thursday at the Early Bird Registration. If you can’t make it on Thursday, I know we could use your help at the club opening on Saturday.”
Please join us in welcoming Rebecca to Pickering Rouge and help support her in the work to develop the club and our athletes.
