Spring After School Program

Introducing After School Paddling Program – Spring Session. This program is designed for kids(ages 9 -14).  

Is your child interested in paddling and looking to try something new after school?   The After School Program is a fun and engaging after-school program designed for kids ages 9-14 who want to explore the exciting world of paddling.  Whether your child is beginner or has some paddling experience, this program offers a great mix of skill-building, fitness and fun

 

The After School Program combines the fundamentals of sprint canoe and kayak with team-building activities, fitness training, and recreational paddling. Our experienced coaches will introduce your child to paddling through both individual and team boats, while also focusing on building their balance, coordination, and aerobic fitness. All this happens in a supportive and positive after-school environment.

Program Highlight

· Sprint Paddling Fundamentals:
Participants will learn the basic techniques of sprint canoe and kayak, including how to paddle efficiently, the proper stroke technique, and how to navigate both solo and tandem boats.

· Team & Individual Boats:
Whether in a solo kayak or a team canoe, your child will experience the dynamics of both individual performance and team collaboration.

· Balance & Coordination Drills:
Dry land activities and on-water exercises will improve their balance, agility, and strength—all crucial skills for paddling.

· Aerobic & Speed Training:
Kids will participate in fun, age-appropriate aerobic exercises and paddling drills to build stamina, speed, and power, both on and off the water.

· Group Games & Team Activities:
Daily group activities and fun games on and off the water help build teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.

· Recreational Paddling:
In addition to the sprint training, there will be plenty of time for relaxed paddling, where kids can enjoy the water, improve their skills, and just have fun.

· Positive Environment:
Our well-trained, enthusiastic coaches focus on fostering a positive, supportive atmosphere where each child can thrive, develop new skills, and make new friends.

Located at the picturesque Glen Rouge Campground in Scarborough, our paddlers will have access to the Rouge River and the trails of Rouge National Park, Canada’s largest urban park.

The programs runs Tuesday evenings from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. The cost of the program is $150.00, which includes all taxes and fees, as well as equipment and all regattas. Our program runs for 6 weeks starting the week of May 11th.

Bantam Spring Training
(Intermediate - Advanced)

Bantam Spring Training Program: Adventure & Fun, Every Week!

The way to spend Spring is on the water! Bantam offers kids aged 9-14 an opportunity to experience the thrill of paddling in a safe and fun environment. Children are able to train in a competitive program.   This program is geared towards the kids who have participated in the Intro to Sprint or Bantam Program before. 

Over the course of 6 weeks, from May 11th to June 21st, our experienced coaches will guide your child through an unforgettable journey of paddling, group games, forest adventures, fun regattas, and more. The program is designed to provide children of all experience levels with an opportunity to learn and develop fundamental paddling skills, while enjoying a positive, engaging, and safe atmosphere.

Taking place at our Frenchman’s Bay Location. The program runs Tuesday & Thursday Morning from 6:00am – 7:45am and Sunday Morning 8:45am – 12:15pm.

Throughout the program, children will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities, including team and individual boat training, balance drills, aerobic and speed training.  There is a potential for a regatta TBD.

The program schedule includes morning warm-up with dry land activities such as jogging and dynamic stretching, group games, multiple on-water sessions with time in Crew boats & Singles

The program fee is $250, which includes all equipment(except Life Jackets). Participants, along with their parents or guardians, become members of Pickering Rouge Canoe Club (PRCC) for the year of registration.

Family Adventures on The Rouge

Family Adventures on The Rouge​

Welcome to the Pickering Rouge Canoe Club’s Family Paddle Program! We’re excited to offer a fun and engaging paddling experience designed for families who want to explore the water together, enjoy time outdoors, and connect with other paddling families.
This program introduces families to a variety of recreational paddling activities, including pleasure canoeing, beginner kayaking, and Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP). Our experienced coaches provide age-appropriate instruction on the fundamentals of each watercraft, with a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and confidence on the water. Families will build skills together and, as comfort and ability grow, enjoy guided paddles along the river while exploring the Rouge National Urban Park from a unique and memorable perspective.
The Spring session will take place on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, running May 16th through June 20th.
Participants are required to bring their own life jacket, sunhat, and water bottle. Paddles, boats, and all other necessary equipment will be provided. The cost of the program is $150.00 plus HST per person, with a family rate of $500.00 plus HST for families of four, making this an affordable and enjoyable way to share the excitement of paddling together.

Summer Programs

Canoe Camp

Welcome to the Canoe Camp! Our camp is designed for children aged 6 to 14 who love to be active and adventurous on the water. With an emphasis on paddling and hiking, our camp offers a unique and exciting way to spend the summer.

Located at the picturesque Glen Rouge Campground in Scarborough, our campers will have access to the stunning shores of the Rouge River and the trails of Rouge National Park, Canada’s largest urban park. Our program offers nine one-week sessions from June 29 to August 28, 2026.

At our camp, children will have the opportunity to explore different types of canoes and kayaks suitable for all ages and skill levels. Our experienced instructors will guide them through the basics of paddling, and campers will be able to improve their technique and try out new skills as they progress through the week.

Set among the trees of the Glen Rouge Campground, children will explore the many trials, learn how to identify different plants, and basic survival skills. Our program also includes a range of other fun and engaging activities, such as games, crafts, and nature exploration. Each week has its own unique theme, so there is always something new and exciting to look forward to.

The cost of camp is $350 per 5-day week (Mon to Fri) and $280 per 4-day week, including all fees and taxes. The first week of camp will be a 5-day week and will be running July 1st. Camp will not be running on August 3rd, this will result in a 4-day week. Campers will be provided with a PRCC Camp shirt during their week of camp.

We welcome campers of all levels of experience, and our program is designed to be inclusive and fun for everyone. Join us for an unforgettable summer of adventure and exploration on the water!

Intro to Sprint

Introducing Intro to Sprint, our hybrid camp program that is designed to offer a smooth transition for children (ages 9 -14) who are interested in exploring the world of competitive paddling while enjoying the leisurely aspects of Canoe Camp.

Intro to Sprint combines the fun and excitement of our recreational Canoe Camp with the competitive edge of our Bantam program. Whether your child is a beginner or has some experience in paddling, our well-trained coaches will provide them with a comprehensive physical activity program that involves paddling, balance drills, and games and activities in a positive and fun environment.

Intro to Sprint offers instruction in the fundamentals of sprint canoe and kayak for both beginners and experienced paddlers. Children will have opportunities to use and compete in a variety of team and individual boats and will be introduced to aerobic and speed training on and off the water.

The program consists of two weeks of full-day sprint canoe and kayak coaching, including morning meet and greet, warm-up with dry land activities, group games, on-water sessions, beach activities, swimming, and time in fun boats (non-racing boats). We also have designated lunch times, which are supervised by our coaches, and theme weeks with costume day on Wednesdays.

The cost of Intro is $550 per 10-day session (Mon to Fri) and $495 per 9-day session, including all fees and taxes. The first week of camp will be a 5-day week and will be running July 1st. Camp will not be running on August 3rd, this will result in a 4-day week. Campers will be provided with a PRCC Camp shirt during their week of camp.

Bantam Racing

The best summer adventure – Bantam Paddling Camp! Bantam offers kids aged 9-14 an opportunity to experience the thrill of paddling in a safe and fun environment. Children are able to train in a competitive program and participate in regattas throughout the summer. 

Over the course of 8 weeks, from June 29 to August 21, our experienced coaches will guide your child through an unforgettable journey of paddling, group games, forest adventures, fun regattas, and more. The program is designed to provide children of all experience levels with an opportunity to learn and develop fundamental paddling skills, while enjoying a positive, engaging, and safe atmosphere.

Throughout the program, children will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities, including team and individual boat training, balance drills, aerobic and speed training, and competitive regattas scheduled throughout the summer. 

The program schedule includes morning meet and greet, morning warm-up with dry land activities such as jogging and dynamic stretching, group games such as manhunt, pickle, frisbee, jack-pot, and relay races, multiple on-water sessions with time in team boats, singles, and big boats, designated lunch time supervised by coaches, beach activities, swimming, time in non-racing boats, and theme weeks.

The program fee is $1600, which includes all equipment (except lifejackets) and regattas. Participants, along with their parents or guardians, become members of Pickering Rouge Canoe Club (PRCC) for the year of registration.

(Beginners - Intermediate)

After-School Paddling Program: Adventure & Fun, Every Week!

Is your child looking for an exciting way to stay active after
school, learn new skills, and make new friends? The After-School
Paddling Program offers a fantastic opportunity for kids aged 9-14
to grow further into the world of paddling while having fun, building
confidence, and developing teamwork skills in a safe and supportive
environment.
If you child has lots of experience with paddling, this
program is designed to challenge them and help them grow in the sport
while keeping the excitement alive with games, friendly competition, and
hands-on experience on the water.

What’s in Store at the Bantam After-School Paddling Program?

  • Competitive Training & Regattas:
    Kids will have the chance to learn the fundamentals of paddling, train with skilled coaches, and participate in friendly regattas to put their skills to the test!

  • Group & Individual Activities:
    Campers will enjoy a combination of team boat training, balance drills, aerobic conditioning, and speed training, along with fun individual paddling experiences to help them develop their personal skills.

  • Fun Group Games & Adventures:
    Between training, kids will bond through group games like manhunt, frisbee, relay races, and more. There will also be fun, adventurous outdoor activities, like forest games and beach challenges.

  • On-Water Experience:
    The program focuses on getting plenty of hands-on time on the water, where kids will paddle in both team boats and solo kayaks/canoes, building confidence and improving their skills in a supportive, non-competitive environment.

  • Safety & Supervision:
    All activities are led by experienced coaches who prioritize safety. Rest assured, your child will be in good hands as they enjoy their time on the water.
