Pickering Rouge Canoe Club - Inspiring young paddlers in our communities since 1958

Rouge Programs in High Gear!

The first week of summer programming at the Rouge was full of sunshine and high spirits. The Sprint Racing 9-14 (Bantam), Intro to Sprint, and Canoe & Kayak Camp are all running from the Rouge Beach location. The kids are having a blast!

Please note that most weeks for Camp are full – going forward there are spaces available only for Week 8 (August 19-23) and Week 9 (August 26-30). All other weeks are currently full, although spaces may open up as children transition to other programs. Consider signing up for Intro to Sprint or the full summer Spring Racing program.

Water levels have gone down — the drop-off and pick-up location for our programs is now the bridge on the Pickering side. Parents are receiving regular communications from staff as the situation continues to change.

The pizza lunch is a big hit – it replaces the BBQ. Because washrooms at Rouge Beach have been temporarily closed, PRCC brought in portable toilets for children and staff to use. The water has now been turned on but electricity is still off in the building. Parks Canada is working on getting the washrooms open and will bring in additional portable toilets for the public if they cannot get the washrooms functioning properly. We are hopeful that all facilities will be working soon.

The Pickering Rouge Regatta is on Saturday, July 13 at Burloak Canoe Club in Oakville
The Rouge Regatta will be held at the Burloak Canoe Club on July 13 at 160 Water Street in Oakville. The format will be a 2 km paddle with an emphasis on fun. We are looking for lots of volunteers to help us run the races and BBQ. We are especially looking for safety boat drivers with their boat licence. This is a great time to work your volunteer hours.

Sign up for volunteering is on our “Jobs and Volunteering” page at http://pickeringrouge.ca/jobs-volunteering/.

High Performance Athletes Aiming High
We have two young athletes, Andrew Fanok and Patrick Bilewicz, who qualified for Marathon Worlds in Shaoxing, China for October 17-20, 2019. The athletes and their families are fundraising for the event.

PRCC also sends a shout out to Ed Urquhart. Ed placed first in his category and 3rd overall at National Time Trials in Montreal in the spring. His ultimate goal is to compete in the Paralympics.
